These are Bronze Level figures. This online reference gives a detailed description of the different variation of the dance steps, including timing, footwork, alignment, and movement; a list of figures that may precede or follow the pattern; and videos providing instruction and demonstration of the figure, techniques and practice routines that include it.
2: LF fwd
3: Transfer weight to RF | 1/8 to L over 2 & 3
Man can make 1/4 turn L over steps 2 & 3
4 1: LF to side and slightly back
2: RF back | No turn
3: Transfer weight to LF
Man can make 1/8 to L turn over 5 & 6
4 1: RF to side in Fan Position
2: RF back
Twisting hip action.
3: Transfer weight to LF | 1/8 to L over 2 & 3
Lady can make 1/4 to L over 2 & 3, turn RF out.
Pendulum hip action.
4 1: RF to side
Twist, pendulum. For basic Bronze Fan, do side and slightly forward. Curving.
2: LF fwd
Twist R hip. Forward check walk on diagonal.
There is a lot of energy toward your partner on this "&" before RF steps back.
LF rotates before RF back.
3: RF back and slightly to side | 1/8 to L
Backward walk action. (2 back walks), squeeze left side to move RF back.
4 1: LF back in Fan Position | 1/8 to L
Squeeze right side to move LF back.
Lady can make 3/8 L over steps 5 & 6
Note:
Amount of turn: Man may make 1/4 turn L over steps 2 & 3 and 1/8 over steps 5 & 6. Lady: 1/4 L over 2 &3, and 3/8 over 5 & 6.
The figure 8 body action should be going on through out, no pause, stop and restart again. Body needs to be active at all times. It could be slowed down, but not stopped.
2: LF fwd
3: Transfer weight to RF | 1/4 to L over 2 & 3
4 1: LF to side in PP
2: RF back
3: Transfer weight to LF | 1/8 to L over 5 & 6
4 1: RF to side in Fan Position
This is more diag fwd.
2: RF back | No turn
Settle, rotate
3: Transfer weight to LF
Turn back foot out.
4 1: RF diagonally fwd in PP
Rotate back LF.
2: LF fwd passing in front of Man's body | 1/8 to L
Man may start leading turning, but Lady should keep feet moving straight fwd, and only turn body/shoulder slightly to L.
3: RF fwd in line with LF, then turn to end RF back | 1/2 to L, body turns less
"3&": sharp 1/2 turn at ending "&".
at end of "&": R side is quite settled, build tension/tone with Man, before stepping LF back into Fan.
4 1: LF back in Fan Position | body completes turn
LF should be straight back on '4', not to the side. Settle, rotate.
Do not let spine move back before the leg. Stretch leg more back, then receive the weight.
Even though this is a back step, R hand (connected to Man) should be quite forward to Man. Otherwise, there would be "empty" feeling.
At "1": contract, squeeze left side, hip action is lateral. (also called "settling").
L arm diagonally to the side, twist body diagonal along with L arm and look at audience. Don't tilt shoulders.
Getting out of Fan position: (e.g. connecting with Hockey Stick or Alemana, with twisting action):
On "&": continue to twist left side, which draws in R leg. R knee cross over L leg. RF closes to LF.
On next "2": first there is weight transfer to RF, so hip need to do pendulum action to diagonally right. Build tone. switch weight onto RF. squeeze R side, L side body forward.
On "3&: delay stepping LF. twist R side to move LF fwd at end of "&".
Note:
Fan position is not a perfect "L" shape, but more like a "V". Man's last step should be diagonal.
Alternative timing: holding position on step 3 for count "2", then counting 4-6 "& 3. 4 1"
