Starting positions:

  • Normally, in Open Position.

  • Solo Spot Volta to Left may start in Open PP: Turn 7/8 L (Lady 7/8 R) on the Spot Volta.

  • Solo Spot Volta to Right may start in Open CPP: Turn 7/8 R (Lady 7/8 L) on the Spot Volta.

Use bounce action. L to R hand hold

  • 1: LF in front of RF (Cuban Cross) | 1/2 to L | BF

    • Spot Volta to Left

    • Move LH slightly to L to turn Lady to R, then release hold

  • a: RF to side and slightly back w/o weight. Toe turned out | 1/2 to L over 2 & 3 | I/E of T (pressure)

    • No lead

  • 2: Take part of weight to RF and swivel on ball of LF, keeping it in place. End LF in front of RF (Cuban Cross) in Closed Position | BF

    • Regain required hold at end of turn

    • Heel lowers at end of turn

Follower

  • 1: RF in front of LF (Cuban Cross) | 1/2 to R | BF

    • Spot Volta to Right

    • Start with LF in front, RF cuban cross in back

    • Lady's RH patty cake with Man's LH.

    • '&': straighten legs and start to turn

    • 'a': turn 1/2 to R (like body is unwinding)

    • '1': weight on RF, RF is now crossed in front of LF, L knee is 'tucked' behind R knee.

  • a: LF to side and slightly back w/o weight. Toe turned out. | 1/2 to R over 2&3 | I/E of T (pressure)

    • &': straighten legs and start to turn

    • 'a': turn 1/2 to R, step L leg side, slightly back (because body is already turning). It feels more like a fwd step.

  • 2: Take part of weight to LF and swivel on ball of RF, keeping it in place. | End RF in front of LF (Cuban Cross) in Closed Position | BF

    • To shorten the distance with Man, slide RF a bit fwd. L knee tucked behind R knee.

    • Heel lowers at end of turn

    • Could follow with a Spot Volta to Left or Continuous with step 2-3 to do continuous spot volta.

Note:

  • Man and Lady can switch, i.e. Man does Lady's part and vice versa.

  • Continuous Spot Voltas: Can repeat 2&3 twice for an additional bar of music, completing another full turn. Count "a1 a2". Continue 'pedaling' with the foot (stepping fwd) while keeping the other foot at same place.

  • Combination: whisk to underarm turn to R for Lady, then start turning L for Solo Spot Volta. Normally does it in 2's or 4's in same direction and then switch direction.
